Paint. Clean well. Prime with Kilz primer then paint. Seal with three coats of a water based polyurethane.
Hi Carrie, you can definitely paint over it. With it being pressboard I would either give a good coat or primer and then the paint of your choice or use Annie Sloan Chalk paint that sticks to pretty much any surface. You can then also replace the hardware to give it a completely new look. Have fun!
There are adhesive films that look like weathered wood, marble, etc.
Yup, wash all of it, and then Annie Sloan or other brand of chalk paint. There is a nice brand at Home Depot, in neutral colors (the brand is Rustoleum Chalk Paint). Less expensive than Annie Sloan (ASCP), but she has the most gorgeous colors. Have fun, you can't ruin it!
