How to solve my backyard drainage problem?

There is a slight grade from the pool to the dirt I’ve removed the tree, but you can see in the next picture the drainage is terribleI’ve dug all along the dirt along the arrow-ed area 8” wide by 8” deep. And want to know if I fill that with rocks and sand and top with fill dirt will that fix my problem? Or do I need to go all the way back in the yard with a slight grade??

  • I'd go all the way back.

I'm sure I could list some DIY's from different sites, but, I think it may be time to have a professional landscaper take a look. Between the run off and pooling, a drainage system may be needed. Just my opinion.

The gravel idea would not work. Just create a muddy mess. Grade the soil from the arrowed area sloped down the yard.

Hi Lisa, for sure you want to ensure the grade goes all the way to back, this way you know for sure the drainage will clear your property. Also it will really look nice, even when it's dry!

If redirecting drainage from your yard can affect a neighbor's property, you might want to call your city engineer to send someone out to give you advice. Free info from a professional, and protects you from causing damage to neighbor's property (and avoid lawsuits!)
