You could try putting down newspaper. You could temporarily weigh them down with rocks or cover them with mulch.
We use weed paper or newspaper in several layers or even cardboard to stop the weeds. Be sure to cut holes for your flowers you already have planted. Then add a non bug mulch like cypress or cedar chip mulch over the top to hide the weed paper. You may get a small weed pop up in the mulch but these are easily pulled out if you check once a week or so as you water your garden and make your rounds.
