How to repair your back deck with not to much money?

  • It depends on the repairs it needs. If boards are rotted, they will need to be replaced. If they are OK, you can just clean and seal the entire deck. A power washer is a good way to clean it and Thompson's Water Seal is good for sealing it.

You must replace any rot with new wood, especially if it is structural or on the stairs. For the decking boards, see if you can turn them over and reuse them. Most pressure treated wood is good for 30 years, but will not last that long if it stays wet. Smaller rot spots can be repaired with Bondo. Cleaning and sealing the wood will help it to last longer.
