The boho look is taking over home decor trends right now, and part of the appeal is that it can be interpreted in so many different ways. Its also a look that is easy to achieve with just a few simple items from the thrift store. Read on for tips on how to shop the thrift stores and style up your home with a little bit of boho this spring!

This circular shelf is one of the first visible spaces in our home, and it is styled with what I consider 3 of the key components to a boho look: bold color and pattern, natural textures, and plants.

Shelf Styling Tip- Always Start with a Clean Slate

Before styling my shelf with all that bright boho decor, I cleared everything off. It is so much easier to envision a new decor plan when you are looking at empty space. This is also a great time to wipe down the dust...thats a chore I'm not so great at keeping up with!

Shelf Styling Tip- Have a full inventory of items at the ready!

When I get started on a restyle, I like to see all the available items I have to work with. I lay out recently thrifted finds, seasonal decor that has been packed away in the basement, and anything else I come across that might be useful in my decor. I lay it all out on the dining room table so I can see what I have to work with. A table full of options allows you to pick and choose, or swap out items as you decorate, rather than make multiple trips to the basement or around the house searching for that perfect piece to finish off your decor.

Boho Decor Tip: Add Natural Texture

Easy to thrift items like wicker baskets, bits of vintage lace, and old books are ideal for adding interest to table decor, mantles, and the hearth of your fireplace.

When I am out thrifting, I always hit the row of baskets first! They often cost anywhere from 50 cents to $1 and are perfect for adding a little bit of boho.

Baskets and thrifted bags like this cotton one are a great way to conceal not so pretty plant pots. If you really want to amp up the boho vibe, search for natural textures that have lots of pattern and texture like this circular wicker tray; while its simple in style, the contrasting darker brown weave adds a pop of interest.

Boho Decor Tip: Add Plants- the more the better!

Plants are an excellent way to bring color into an otherwise neutral color palette. This massive aloe will need to be re-potted this spring, but I love the natural element it brings to our fireplace (in a $2 thrifted basket of course). The faux succulent I found at Goodwill (3 for $1!) and the mega-Monstera leaf came from IKEA. While I’m not typically a fan of faux plants, I think in small doses they can make a major impact!

Boho Decor Tip: Bring in Bold Color & Pattern

People sometimes fear bold colors, but I say the more the better! If you are nervous about adding more color, start with 1 or two of your favorites and incorporate them in small doses. Turquoise is my favorite color to use in our home, which is why I added the globe. I like how the yellows and shades of orange pop on the globe, so while at the thrift store I looked for plant pots in those same shades.

Styling an eclectic tablescape is a sure way to start a conversation with guests! I brought in a brightly colored table cloth, then layered on more color with ceramic birds my neighbor passed on to me. To balance out the bold colors of the tablecloth and ceramic birds, I added in the doll-sized, wicker peacock chair, and a few of my smaller plants. Once again, I'm trying to work in all parts of boho here with the color, natural texture, and a few plants.

I hope my tips encourage you to take a trip to thrift store and step into a new style of home decor this spring! Most of these items I have accumulated over time, but I can tell you I spent around a total of $50 on the items featured.
