How to stop wild garlic growing in my garden?

They look like clumps of wild onions, they get pretty white flowers at the top in the spring.

Does anybody know what they are? and how I can get rid of them.

the best way to get rid of them is pull out as many bulbs as you can, they are so invasive, and then use a garden sieve and sieve the soil to make sure you haven't missed any as the bulbs can be very small.

Hi Sally, a good suggestion from Chrispyjane, that is the only way without using chemicals to rid your garden of these plants. These bulbs seem to divide and spread all over the place.

They are easier to pull after rain, the ground is looser and the dirt that comes with them can be taken off by laying them down to dry and then knocked off. Then just compost them.

Dig them out and pitch them. The main bulb reproduces smaller ones. Use a small shovel and so you don't just pull of the green part. Turn over the soil to get them all out. Small ones can be hiding and not yet sprouted.

Be very careful. Do not ingest them unless you are absolutely certain it is garlic. There is a plant here in Oklahoma we call Crow Poison. Why crow poison I don't know, but I do know the plant is poison and cattle and horses won't eat it. I have never dug any, so I can't say it has bulbs, but it looks just like wild garlic.

Star shaped white flowers? In West Oklahoma we call that Star of Bethlehem, and they are poisonous.

HI Sally. It sounds like they are garlic chives. My brother has them and used them in cooking sometimes. They spread like crazy. Here is a link for you. https://www.thespruceeats.com/garlic-vs-regular-chives-1807018
