Kitchen Island Miracle

Our kitchen was baaaad. And we didn't want to do a massive overhaul because of bigger dreams for this space! But then the ReStore and our contractor's suggestion came to our rescue... what a difference a new and improved kitchen island makes.
Wanna see what this used to look like?! Keep reading > > >
Welcome to the 70s. This was our kitchen when we bought the house. We have plans to add a bedroom over this room which will raise the ceiling height so any major renovation to this kitchen will happen then. But... it was SO DATED. And we wanted to modernize it on the cheap.
Here you can see the fridge... which made removing this double decker island a little more complicated. Until a contractor simply suggested we tuck a new fridge against the wall on the other side of the kitchen. Boom. Island GONE.
Bye bye, 70s island.
These base cabinets were $100 at the Restore. And were the foundation for our new island.
Because this island will be flanked with bookshelves, I only had to paint the fronts! After seeing it on Houzz, I went with Benjamin Moore's HC-120Van Alen Green and love it.
An Ikea countertop, a wine fridge from an estate sale and some shelves on either side meant our new island was the same dimensions as the old island, so no floor patching needed.
We had to replace the stove at some point (turns out 1/4 burners is tricky for cooking) and I gave that back wall a coat of chalkboard paint for fun.
The island opens up the space SO much and I can't believe how much better this whole space feels now as a result. I mean, duh... the old island was awful, but this was SO easy. The best part? It was under $2000!!

Why do they always show Kitchen's & kitchen redo's with No refrigerator ? The largest piece in your kitchen but what to do with it ? I'm wanting to redo my kitchen which is small but need to figure out where I can put my refrigerator so it does not look out of place.
