How do I get rid of a dog urine smell?

Hi, my daughter brought her dog when she moved back in. She sleeps in the basement with a concrete floor, and she pees and poops down there when my daughter doesn't let her out. How can I get rid of the smell? Thank you

Start with vinegar and water in a 2:1 ratio. You can also buy products made just for cleaning pet stains, Karen. Good luck!

Hi Karen. I would start with the vinegar and water. I found a product that worked great when my puppy kept going in the house. It is by Clorox Urine Remover. I tried so many but this one really killed the smell. Good Luck!

You need an enzyme cleaner from a pet store.

I foster puppies and kittens, and when we have "accidents" we use Anti-icky poo. Weird name, but works great. The enzymes don't mask the odor, they neutralize it. I also use Nature's Miracle, but I like the smell of the Anti-icky poo better. Both work just as well.

We bought a house that had this same problem. Tried everything on the market. When the dog stops using the floor, you will have to seal it . Kilz primer has a sealant made especially for this. You roll it on with a paint roller, yes it will then be the color of white primer, but it will kill the smell. Then we put in new flooring, but you could paint the floor with concrete paint after sealing it.

That is just not healthy for the dog. The dog MUST be taken out regularly. And living in a basement is not ideal. If she can't take care of the dog properly, she needs to relinquish it to a no kill shelter or rescue group. Period, end of story. Yes, I feel strongly about this as I rescue animals from negligent owners.

I know it isn't healthy. I let her out during the day, even when I can barely walk due to back issues. Tessa (dog) has taken me down on the ice in the winter, but my daughter doesn't care. Her ex came home with Tessa when they were together and continued to beat up on my daughter. She came home with her 2 little children and Tessa. We have been telling her that she needs to find a home for her, because it is no life for a dog. I have rescued animals in the past as well. Sorry, thanks for letting me rant

I am trying my best. She is a sweet girl, but I already have a dog and 3 cats in the house. The house is small and not enough room for even her and my 2 grandchildren. I know she wont be able to take her to an apartment because she is a pit bull, and people don't like pitt bulls. My grandkids (ages 3 & 5) can do anything to her, and she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. I really wish that my daughter will grow up and face facts

Thank you, and yes, I let her out during the day, but when she comes in for the night, my daughter doesn't let her out at night when she has to go.
