What would you do with this front door?

I'm having someone strip and sand the front door as the finish is flaking off. Should we re-stain (what shade?) or paint (what color?). It is wood and gets full morning sun. The brick is has some reddish tones and there is stone around the entrance.

I think staining it a dark mahogany would be really pretty. You have a very pretty home. Have you considered making the porch and steps the whole width of the indentation in the house? Trim or remove the shrubs and plant lower ones and put potted flowers on both sides of the door.

My thoughts are a darker stain with a little bit of a red tint, so I think I'm pretty close to what you're saying. The steps are almost to the ends of the indent. Surprisingly, we have trimmed those shrubs a great deal! I usually do have potted plants but this was February. I'm not sure how long we will live here so trying to make cost-effective updates! Thank you for your thoughts and kind words.

I would paint that door red and add a knocker and gold kick plate.

I can't go a true red - hubby ! But I am planning on a kick plate as it will help with wear and tear from water. Maybe a knocker would be fun! Thanks!

I would use Marine Paint that will wear much better, a nice blue or green would work too.
