I live in Zone5a..wondering if I can plant spring bulbs in containers/pots outside over winter? Alternatively leave in garage (doesn’t usually go below freezing) over winter and bring out in early spring?

That will work fine. If they begin to grow before it gets warm enough to plant, move them indoors for a short while.

Most spring bulbs are safe in zone 5. I have tulips, crocus, snowdrops, etc etc. If you want them in pots and are concerned about them freezing during winter you could sink the pot in the ground and lift again in the spring.

Bulbs that get planted in Spring, lifted in fall-grow thru Summer into Fall-are different than ones that get planted in Fall,in ground year round, come up in Spring

Yes you can but be sure to keep checking the weather just in case it drops suddenly as the bulbs will freeze. Be sure to harden them off in the shade for a week or so before placing in the sun.

Bulbs that get planted in Spring, lifted in fall-grow thru Summer into Fall-are different than ones that get planted in Fall,in ground year round-come up in the Spring-grow in Spring & early Summer. What are they? Yes you can....do not cut any of the dead leaves off, just pull them off gently when they are completely crumbly--they cannot get any ground/soil/pot freeze. so if needed keep the pots inside cardboard boxes with newspaper as insulation in garage just so you watch temps.old gardening rule "don't plant til after Mothers Day" so wait until you pull them out.Freesia are my all time favorites
