How do I refinish an old cedar trunk?

I have a cedar trunk that has some veneer missing. I need ideas on how to refurbish it

I love to see old trunk's updated. You could definitely fill in the veneer, or you could even use paint with a textured finish to try to cover any missing veneer. Here is one of my favorites https://amzn.to/2FITAQy
spackle where the veneer is missing and then paint over it....or if you buy stainable spackle you could restain it.
