Check weight requirements if flying; get something to weigh your bags if flying and measure for size requirements. Tightly roll your clothes you will be able to get more in smaller bag. Always leave room for additional items you may be bringing back in bags.May be cheaper to mail some stuff in packages to & from destinations.Put shoes in plastic bags(dirty bottoms off clothing) as well as all toiletries(If you are going somewhere you cannot buy what you need) in zip lock bags in suitcases,so nothing spills on clothes,if you are going up or down in elevation even just driving it causes air pressure to build up in bottles/bags and they could burst(emptying bottles of liquid 1/4 to 1/3 helps too). Take all valubles(jewelery) and medicines with you in carryon/purse(in case it gets lost).Don't overpack; try to put outfits/clothes together that can be worn for multiple /purpose occasion and versatile/mix & matching. While doing actual traveling wear easy on/easy off clothes(bathroom breaks/sitting long periods) and easy off/on shoes---- if flying need to remove shoes at airport security.Have proper ID and all documentation easily accessible and keep it safe so it is not stolen. Most of all have fun! Where are you going? I love to travel

pack your clothes as an "outfit" and roll the bundle together. under wear /socks in the middle with the accessories. then put in plastic grocers bag. its grab and go and the dirty items are separate from the clean- any liquids get put in zip lock type bags, after taping the lid to the bottle. duck tape works, take a smaller roll with you. in a pinch you can use it to fix a tear in clothing--put it on the backside of the item. if you are going on a longer trip, purchase your laundry products as needed at the laundromat. I know that sounds strange, but you don't want to have the products spill. if you are not going outside of your country, and not flying, put dry laundry detergent measured out in a zip lock baggy. add dryer sheets.

have a smaller bag with first aid supplies, you can find them at a wally world.

  • I roll my clothes too. Look up the KonMari folding method. If it works for drawers, it will definitely work for a suitcase. And when packing think about a capsule wardrobe. It's a small amount of clothing items that can be mixed and matched to create a lot of outfits.

ah 1 more thing.....if you take prescription medications take only the amounts you will use up during your trip. leave them in the prescription bottle. I know the pill cases are more friendly, but are often not labeled. also get back up prescriptions printed-must have contact number of md and pharmacist.

Rolling clothes is a great way to cut down on the wrinkles and take up less space. Take gallon ziploc bags and place clothing inside to make it even better. You can pack all underwear in 1 bag, socks in 1, and then 1 outfit per bag. Blue jeans don't pack in the bags but other than that, others do well. If you fly it makes it easier for TSA to inspect without making such a mess.

    Prescriptions in 1 bag.

Save old prescription bottles to make travel size containers of shampoo, lotion, and other liquids, then place in 1 bag.

  • Well i am the queen of Murphy's Law when it comes to flying. Even if i have a direct flight sometimes my checked suitcase doesnt make the flight in spite of being at the airport super early. I always take a change of clothes, toothbrush and all prescription meds in my carry on.

If you roll your clothes you will fit more into the suitcase. I also use ziplock bags to corral small items. You may even want to consider using zipped packing bags to keep like items together in your suitcase and maximize the space.
