Jeanette...i love transfers on old furniture...can be on stained or painted. In my opinion the buffet would be beautiful with either even without seeing it.
I change mine out seasonally. It has a mirror on the back with a small shelf where I have candles and sometimes greenery. Large platter on the serving area. It will depend on your buffet style as well as your personal style. Also if you want to change out for seasons & holidays or something that will be permanent. You can purchase items that look like food but can be left out. I have a beautiful "cherry pie" that is actually a candle that I sit out between holiday decorations.
