How to get rid of Japanese Beetles?

The Japanese Beetles in Northern Illinois are feasting on my green beans. The leaves look like lace. I have small dogs, so it would have to be a pet friendly method. Last year was awful. Spring is here and I need to do something soon for my this years crop.

There is a good video on you Tube. It explains the hibernation cycle and when they are moving close to the top of the ground. That is when you sprinkle with the killer. It advises how long to keep pets off grass, not long.

Well you should have your gardening area all fence off they keep your dogs from going in it in the first place there's always sprays and there's always a dusting that you can use. Half the area is fenced in the dog shouldn't be affected at all

Neem oil works well for Japanese beetles. You'll need to treat your lawn with Grub X or Milky Spore to kill off the lawn grubs that become beetles. You can also hand pick them in early AM, knocking them into soapy water, where they'll drown. Pick up any leaf litter and stir mulch so they can't hide.

Once you remove the beetles, why not drape old sheer curtains atop the beans? You can weight down the bottoms with rocks.
