I found a product called Krud Kutter. Works great on mold. Can alter colors so always test first.

Concrobium makes a spray for mold, or you can clean with bleach, then immediately follow with distilled white vinegar to preclude mold spores multiplying.

Odors can be eliminated with baking soda, distilled white vinegar, and regularly using kitchen and bath exhaust fans, both when showering and for at least 20-30 min. after showers. Wipe shower walls and ceilings dry. Use linens that never see fabric softener. Launder linens at least weekly. Use felted wool dryer balls with a few drops of lavender essential oil, rather than fabric softener.

Use a fabric, water resistant shower curtain liner and curtain, because they dry faster.

Open windows when possible to air out the house. Run ceiling fans. Remember to clean your kitchen exhaust hood filters. Change furnace filters monthly, or as required. Dust the top of ductwork, refrigerators, freezers, walls. Wipe refrigerator gaskets, shelves, and dispose of expired food items, regularly.

    Open skylights, weather permitting.

    Don't crowd clothes in closets.

Never hang damp clothing in a closet.

Keep shoes near the entry, on a boot tray or rack, to avoid stinking up closets.

If you have pets or children, vacuum frequently.

Keep food items contained to a kitchen to avoid spills you don't want to spend time removing from furniture, rugs, etc.

Vacuum draperies at least 1x/ month. Launder at least quarterly, fabric permitting.

Air circulation is the key to stopping mold and odors. Use your fans as often as you need to. Mold can be cleaned up with Dawn dish liquid, vinegar and hot water. Keep on top of it, as serious mold can make you sick.

Address the source of moisture first. Air circulation is important. A dehumidifier is key if you have high humidity. Our basement is problematic without one.

  • Hi Gwen - There are several ways to get rid of mold, but most importantly, you need to address the root cause to keep it from returning. This article focuses on the bathroom, but is an overall great article that covers methods of how to remove mold, if bleach is safe to use, and how to prevent it from coming back. Hope this helps!
