How can I change my kitchen cabinets?

They are not really good cabinets. I live in a townhouse. I want to remodel my kitchen with more organization.

I also want to take up the rugs in the bedrooms upstairs and put down flooring. How do you install the interlocking planks?

In regards to the cabinets, check out your local home improvement stores and also private businesses that deal with remodeling kitchens. Get estimates on removing the old and putting in the new. The cabinets may be something that pros should do rather than you doing yourself if you have never done before. The interlocking planks should have some kind of directions on installation and what prep needs to be done to the floor before starting to install them. If they don't, the people in the flooring department should be able to tell you what you need to do. I am not sure if you are talking about real wood planks, laminate or the vinyl, there may be differences in the prep work and installation on each differing one. I have looked at the vinyl myself, and that looks like installation would be pretty easy and only three simple tools are needed for the whole process.

    You can paint them.

    How to Paint Cabinets

Make sure they are clean and dry. Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint with 220 grit sandpaper or a green Scotch Brite pad.. Use a tack cloth or damp rag to remove dust after sanding. Prime with a stain blocking primer like KILZ. Acrylic or water base paints are low-fume and clean up easily with water. Alkyd or oil-based paints require good ventilation because the paint contains solvents that can irritate your lungs and make you feel sick. Alkyd options require mineral spirits for cleanup, but they provide a hard, durable paint finish. Whichever you use, buy the best-quality paint you can afford for a lasting kitchen cabinet finish. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

Both Home Depot and Lowes will do computer plans for you based on room measurements and will give you competitive prices. We redid our kitchen and got both to draw plans, competitive prices, and got nice cabinets and countertops.

  • Rustoleum makes a kit called Cabinet Transformations. It’s an easy kit to use. You can see how I did it here: https://www.flippingtheflip.com/2015/09/kitchen-cabinets-black.html?m=1
