I want to find out how to take care of it so I don't accidentally kill it, but I can't for the life of me find out what kind of cactus it is...

Beautiful plant!! Be sure not to over water any cactus. They like it on the dry side. Test the soil before adding any water. If you purchase, a water meter, which is about $15.00, you can use to indicate when your plants are dry and require watering.

Here are my options for you....It's an April Fool joke and not real.

It is real but painted ( Home Depot sells painted cacti, ugh)

    It's rare and very cool.

Cacti need a lot of light. Warm temps. Very little water. It's tempting to over water cactus, I've done it many times. Now I wait until they look a little shrunken, not a lot, before I water. By that time the soil is very dry so I have to submerge the pot so the soil soaks and absorbs the water. I even add a tiny drop of liquid soap to help break the surface tension of the soil. Good luck

Be sure your cactus have great drainage! If they are outside in the rain the rain needs to run off. We had a big hill built here in Sacramento (where drainage is not great!) We made a pile of rocks, put in the plants, poured sand over the whole thing, and it was fabulous. We had it for ten years and everyone enjoyed watching the blooms as they appeared over the year, even some which bloomed once a year - IN THE DARK. You will have a good time with your cactus plants.

I don't mean to offend anyone here but it looks to me like someone took a Christmas decoration and stuck it in a pot or soil. You know the kind you can get at the dollar store that are all fuzzy?? It really looks like that to me....hate to disappoint. However, on the flip side, It Never Needs Watering!! LOL

Just enjoy it. Now I wonder was this a gift from someone or did you purchase it ? Reason I was asking is usually there's a marker in the pot or a sticker that identifies the "plant" and it's care. Hmmmm…..

    :-)

It's a real plant, no worries, and I DID get it before April Fool's, I actually just recently found this site, it DID have a marker...until my cat got to it...

Only water when bone dry. Then, give it plenty, as Oberlinmom instructed. Excessive watering kills many, many cacti.

Looks like one of the lithop family, aka living stones. I think like Oberlin mom said it has been painted. Goggle lithop and see it's care. If I find more I'll let you know. I know I would have bought it lol. I have tons cacti/succulents ranging from 4 feet to 1/2 inch. I water them once a week with just enough water to run through, but don't leave sitting in water. Due to the sheer amount of cacti, identifying is very hard.

Lithop family - it could be painted - some do turn colors -your better off underwatering than over - don’t leave it in standing water -just soak every couple weeks - loosen thel dirt before you water if it needs it - if it's in direct sun -water a little more when it’s summer and a little less in winter ( once a month at the most)

    cool looking cactus 😊
