Hello I personally think -a room by room attack is achievable and satisfying.

one room at a time. start with the bedrooms, then the living room, kitchen, bathrooms last. have 3 containers - I use laundry baskets.

'items to keep, items to donate, items to store. here in Iowa we have distinct seasons-warming up, hotter than hades , cooling down, freezing your feet off.

if an item of clothes doesn't fit correctly-donate. if you haven't needed to use an item in the past year-donate.. if you have children-get them involved. have them sort their toys- which get the most play time? keep those, donate their least favorite/ out grown toys. or do a garage sale. now that a bit of clutter is gone wash/ clean all floors and hard surfaces.

pack a bucket with the needed cleaning supplies, rent a carpet shampooer if the carpets are grungy.

Liz...I usually do one room at a time, moving furniture out from the walls to do the baseboards, getting vac used while it is moved. I do my windows, washing curtains and love to hang on outside line to get spring sun. Isn't spring wonderful? Perfect time to clean and make everything smell sooooooo good! Just have fun and try not to think about it being work because when you finish each room you will be closer to being done!

  • I do one room at a time. I set aside time on a Saturday and do it over several weekends. I live alone, so things are kept neat and tidy, but it still needs cleaning. Work from top down, ceiling to floor. Wash the curtains or drapes or send out if they need to be dry cleaned. Here are some check lists to make it easier for you.

I am too old to do it. I hire a spring cleaning crew. No wear and tear on my bones. No renting carpet cleaners. They bring all supplies. I go outside and enjoy the spring. I did it for years and years but I owe myself this little pleasure

room by room. I have found the old method of the 3 bins effective.

First take everything in the room that is out of place, stacked, random, just doesnt belong and gather it all in one pile. Get yourself 3 big plastic tubs. mark them "Keep", "Toss", "Donate". After the pile is gone through then you have a clearer vision of what needs to be done, you can then tackle stuff in cabinets, drawers, closets in a much cleaner and de-stressed environment.

  • Break it into smaller jobs. Decluttering will give you the best bang for your buck and then you have less to clean in the future as well. Watch Tidying Up for inspiration and motivation.
