That could be as simple as painting to a complete gut job. It will depend on what you want to do and how in depth you plan on going with the job.
Are you doing an update or a full gut remodel? Or something in between? Paint makes a dramatic difference. A new window treatment , shower curtain, and towels are another quick update. If you are planning on replacing the toilet, tub etc. you need to know plumbing. Changing the footprint can involve electrical change, too. Paint, flooring and even tile can be done with the right tools, with some basic DIY experience. Plan your budget and who can do what, before starting.

What is it that you want to do? What is your budget?
Paint is the best way to update anything on a budget. You can paint the cabinets, walls, floors. You can add pretty accessories to draw the eye to those pretty items and away from things you can't change.
If you're looking to do a bigger remodel, check out your local Restore to see what they have. They carry tile, tubs, sinks, etc.
