How do I remove rocks that line my sidewalk without breaking my back?

I have rocks that line my sidewalk they are about a foot wide, and span from the house to the sidewalk (about 20 metres). I tried using a shovel to remove them and I almost killed me!! The liner has degraded so I cannot lift them out that way. I want to remove them as the weight is causing my lawn to sink and problems with my sidewalk. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Maggie, I don't know of an easy way to do it other than hiring someone to remove them. That is about the only way to do it without breaking your back.

Sorry Maggie, rock is heavy and I don't know of any easy way to move it besides brute strength. Maybe you could hire day labors or teens in your neighborhood. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. Good luck with with your project. If you do move it yourself take lots of breaks and try not to do it all at once.

My Mom wanted to get rid of the rocks in her driveway. They just got pushed up when the driveway was plowed. I put an ad on Craig's List Free For the Taking. We got a reply and the guy came and shoveled them up. Didn't have to lift one rock. :)

I live on a gravel road so just rake them out into the road. then when they grade the road just push back into drive and yard. It is a never ending battle. I am lucky to have a neighbor with 3 teen boys who will do the work for less than commercial people.
