Hi Suzy, there are a few different things you could put in it. I have seen some beautiful ones with candles in them (all different heights and sizes mixed together) as well as wood/log arrangements.
Clean it out and place some large candles in different heights inside the opening.
AFter cleaning thoroughly, place large candlesticks of various heights inside. They not only look fresh, but you can light the candles to make it look like you have a roaring fire going.
