  • Personally, I would get rid of the carpet, but if that's not a possibility, here's a link on how to get rid of the mold:

Hopefully you know the source of how it got wet . You need to dry the carpet thoroughly , use a fan , if it is a throw rug sunshine works great , keep it lifted off the ground to keep good air flow around it , you can spray it with an enzyme cleaner , found in any pet store. Leave it in the sun , turning every other hour . Do not leave it outside overnight . Once inside sprinkle with baking soda let it sit for awhile before vacuuming. If the rug is a wall to wall type , if it is near the edge see if you can lift it , if so place something under the carpet to let air get underneath it and help it dry out. Also use the enzyme cleaner , and when dry do the baking soda. Good luck !

  • If wall to wall carpet, use a vinegar water solution to steam clean them. Then use fans to dry them out. You might consider getting a dehumidifier to prevent this from occurring in the future.
