    Hi Carrol,

I use baking soda and vinegar. Pour 1/2 - 1 cup of baking soda in the drain then add 1/4 - 1/2 cup of vinegar. Let it bubble for a while so that it can do it's work the rinse with clear water. If it's a bad clog it might take more than once. You might also remove the plug and use a snake to bring up whatever is clogging the drain. To prevent this in the future, I'd suggest using baking soda and vinegar on a regular basis for your drains. I do ours every 2-3 months and we no longer have a problem. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best.

We are getting ready to order some of these plastic snakes from amazon to combat the same problem. Great customer reviews and a very good price too:

Carol, we had tried snaking the drain, also used Draino, Liquid Plumber and even had a plumber come because none of the other things had worked. Still the drain was very, very, very slow draining.! I had read a similar solution on another Hometalk discussion. Pour 1 cup boiling water in the drain, add 1/2 cup baking soda, then add 1/2 cup white vinegar. Place your sink stopper in the drain so the mixture stays in the drain pipes. Let work for 15-20 minutes, remove stopper and pour in another 1 cup boiling water to rinse the drain. If bad clog, repeat all steps.

This worked for me and still after a month, the drain is working flawlessly!! Hope this remedy works for you.

Sometimes sinks get clogged with hair. I bought a tool from the hardware store that is a long plastic stick with points that goes down the drain then pulls out the hair on the way up. It worked for me!
