How can I fill the space between a mattress and a headboard?

We have a low mattress and springs which created a space between the top of the mattress and the bottom of the headboard. My husband's c-pap tubing keeps getting caught in there?

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • Hi! I'm a respiratory therapist and also used to work in home care helping people with their CPAP problems. One thing you can do to fill that gap is buy a twin size egg crate foam mattress topper (they're about $15 at Walmart), fold it in half, and stuff it in the gap. You can cut it to size easily. I hope that helps!

Can you use foam pool noodles in that space? They are fairly inexpensive and flexible so you could push one or two down into that space.

you can tuck it in below the sheet, try rolling a tube shape to fill your gap.

I agree with what Tricia suggested with the egg crate. You could get a sheet or pillow cases that you like and encase the egg crate so that it fits tight between the space that needs to be filled. Putting it in the fitted sheet may work, but you would have to replace it each time you change the sheets, or if it moves you would have to take the fitted sheet off the head of the bed to adjust it. It may be easier to just work with it separately. I hope this helps! I don't have a headboard on my bed and pillows constantly fall down in the gap, I started putting old pillows in the gap when I get new ones and that keeps my pillows where they belong, but that may not keep the tubing from migrating down through the soft pillows.

Thank you for the support on Tricia's idea.

I have to laugh, been there and did that with no headboard and missing pillows a while back and what a middle of the night fiasco!
