Can you repair a metal tub that has a crack & rust around it on side?

  • Hi Debbie! It depends on the depth of the crack. For the best results, I'd recommend finding someone to professionally repair it. Most areas will have tub refinishers which use an epoxy heat cured finish. The cost varies and takes about a half a day. If it's a cast iron clawfoot tub, it's really worth spending the money to get it repaired since they are expensive to replace and takes a lot of man power to remove from a bathroom. Plus, they are gorgeous. We have one in our upstairs bathroom and it's one of the things that sold us on the house.

Try silicone caulking. Just make sure the area around it is nice and clean.

Clean the rust off with some sandpaper. Fill the crack with two part epoxy putty. Feather the edges. Sand smooth when dry. We used to fix auto gas tanks with it.
