How do I get motivated?

I'm overwhelmed by all the task I need to do. Inside the house, outside the house and in the yard and then there's the garage!

Break the task into 1 or 2 hour jobs. Work 2 hours and break. Complete the task, remove junk to trash, stop. Reassess - does this need rework later (deep scrub or paint)? Save it for later. Ensure you rest. Schedule the next task, but do not overwork or you will not complete the entire project. Work is more fun you can do it with someone - kids, hubby, friend. Buy pizza and have a 2-hour workout.

Yes....the tasks in my house overwhelm me as well. AND NEVER-ENDING. ha. Recently I started scheduling in my cleaning hours on my phone. I have been trying to schedule my tasks and account for all hours of the day and I am getting way more done!! It has really helped. Monday I take an hour or more to pick up whatever is the messiest room and I will move to the next. But only for the amount of time I have slotted for "pickup". Tues.- I Vaccuum the areas that were picked up on Monday for the slotted time. Wednesdays I am back to 'picking up' the other rooms I didn't get to. Thursdays are my bathroom days. And Fri...I Vaccuum the other picked up areas. This way I don't feel like I am a slave to the house because I only slot about 1-2 hours of the day for this at different slotted times. I also don't think about it enough to overwhelm me because it has become routine and my phone alerts tell me what I need to do. This new method has been working out great! I even have created time slots for computer and social media to keep my screen time down which is one big distraction right there that can keep you from getting stuff done. Hope it helps!

I can definitely relate. Start by picking 1 task that you can complete in a day. Then take a look when it's done, give yourself a pat on the back, and move to the next project. Some days I only get 1 thing done like feeding my plants but I try to focus on the "done" rather than the "undone". Family is my top priority so as long as I am taking care of them I feel I am doing a good job.

I had the same problem. Now I make a detailed list for every project (inside and outside) and as I complete each task I mark it off. It makes it possible to break every thing down and see that you have made progress. Just doing a task here or there you can make short work of it all.

Get a big jar. Write each task to be done in each room and put them into the jar. Choose one or two slips of paper over a weekend. This way it won't overwhelm you. If you have a spouse he can do one of the slips and you can do the other if that's ok with you.
