Dust will always be there, especially near bright windows. What you should do, though, is dust from the highest point of your rooms and dust downward, so the dust doesn't form on the areas you just dusted.

Hi ! I know that I've read to vacuum a room last , but I always felt it kicked up dust all over what I just cleaned ...ugh...so I always straighten up the room , then vacuum , then go work in another room for a little while , so the dust from vacuuming can settle , before finishing the room . When it comes to dusting , always start high and work your way to the lower areas ! Dry dusting will just spread the dust around , making it airborne ... So when ever possible lightly spray your duster and use oils , for wood , it not only shines , but conditions the wood as well ! Not to mention it using lemon or orange oil , it makes the room smell good & clean .

There are two things that you can try. The first would be an air purifier. They use a HEPA filter which catches even the tiniest airborne dust particles. The purifiers are rated by the square footage of the room. Large rooms need large purifiers which can be very costly but the smaller ones are reasonably priced.

The second thing to try is to dampen a cloth with fabric softener and then dust. You can even try drier sheets although they probably won’t work as well. Airborne dust particles will cling to the rag or dryer sheet rather than the furniture and not simply re-deposit somewhere else.

I always dust first and then vacuum. I never felt the vacuum kicked up a lot of dust...maybe it does but that is always the way I have done it (Mother also).

micro fiber cloths/dust mops or dampen cloths/dust mop with Downy added to water; make sure to change or clean/wash house filters;vacuum all the vent covers/air returns in house regularly;vacuum daily if you have carpet-make sure the vacuum filter is changed, washed, cleaned everytime you empty it;if you have canister no bag type wash it out after empyting it;vacuum curtains, pillows & upholstery regularly;whether you dust or vacuum first depends on how good your dust cloths and vacuum are.
