How can I get the mothball odor out of cedar chest?

Mothball odor is strong, I can't smell the cedar

    You could air it out really well, keep the lid open. Another thing to try us activated charcoal and or clay kitty litter.

    Not sure if the mothball smell will ever be totally gone once it has penetrated the wood.

    It has me wondering why would anyone use mothballs in cedar, when moths are repelled by it.

      The chest is too heavy to move outside to air it out. I'll try airing it in the house and boiling cinnamon sticks to get the smell out of the house. Where do I buy activated charcoal?

    Do you have a fan you could use on it in the meantime to hasten airing.

    Looks like they carry this at lowes and Amazon.

    yes use charcoal brisks that you would use to barbeque with to absorb the putride smell of moth balls.
