Take everything out of the garage (if possible). Put in your storage units of choice; shelves, bins, etc. Bring in the items you want to keep. With everything out of the garage you’ll be able to see what you have.

Hi ! I have a small one car garage with bikes , kayaks, camping stuff , sports stuff , took ...It is difficult to find room and keep things organized ! Pull everything out of the garage , not including , shelves , stuff on the shelves or things hanging on the wall. Then if you don't have a hanging system in the wall for shovels and takes or brooms , get one ! They are inexpensive and easy to put up ( make sure You attach it to the studs ) and save floor space . Alternatives to this would be but a corner floor utility holder or even a pallet turned on it's side , to stick the rakes and brooms in. Next to to whatever shelves you have , if you don't have any , get some heavy duty plastic shelf units , usually under $40 , but well worth it ! I
now organize by grouping gardening stuff on one shelf , tools on another shelf , paint stuff on another ... Take masking tape and write what goes on each shelf . Get plastic tubs for outdoor sports stuff , car washing supplies , camping supplies and so forth... Just give everything a space ...that is the most important thing . Also you should always hang a flashlight and a fire extinguisher together in an easy to get to area , by the door , and don't block it with bikes or boxes !!!! Next , sweep out the garage and Then move bikes and other stuff that you took out earlier , back into th e garage in a neat and easy to get to way . I really think that trying to use as much wall space as possible , racks , bike or ladder hooks anything that you can hang , gets it off the floor , will give you more space . Good luck !!!
Hi Rhonda, if your garage was once organized, you already have a start. Why not start in one corner and remove items that do not belong there and place in the area where the item should be? Keep working around the garage in a clockwise fashion, removing and placing items where they are supposed to be. You may find you need a few new storage bins or shelves but those can be added to the areas you've organized as needed. Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part. I usually accompany my projects like this with some great upbeat music I enjoy and it makes the time go faster. An old "Beachboys" CD is what I do my best work to!
