How can I best redo this jewelry cabinet made of particleboard?

I'd like it to be more interesting.

  • You could spray paint it and then stencil something decorative on to it.

You can paint it a lighter color using a chalky paint and maybe even change the knobs!

I love the black, but I would immediately touch up the black with paint. Then I would grab my Rustoleum 2X gold paint, and paint every edge and drawer pull gold. The trim on the rectangles behind the pulls need to be gold, too. Don’t forget any trim on the feet or legs. When that was dry, I would use one or more of my mother-of-pearl fingernail polishes, painting over at least the drawer pulls, and possibly al the gold trim. I might apply tiny mirror tiles and try to paint Chinese words and birds and maybe scenes, with lots of red touches, to make this into a post-war 1940s Chinese jewelry chest. Hanging from each pull would be a red tassel, like the ones on graduates’ hats. To find Chinese symbols for “beauty” and Chinese birds in paintings, I would just type that in on my browser. I think this chest would take gold and other craft paints, a little research, and not much time with the right size small brushes. I would really like to see your project! You have so many options!
