Try borax.
Baking soda and confectionate sugar?
Blend of icing sugar and borax sprinkled near their nest or in areas where they are seen will take care of any variety of ants.
We had fire ants and tried everything to get rid of them. Furthermore our new lot was right next door to a field full of fire ants. Then an old timer gave us the answer. It was easy, inexpensive, safe for pets and people and best of all it WORKED. Here it is: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/pest-repeller/ants-safe-and-effective-cure-36651130
Ants: Safe and Effective Cure
Amdro ant bait works fast need very little put on trail carried back to colony everything dies. Boric acid and cornmeal with a little sugar basically same thing as Amdro just you make it. Both are toxic to kids /pets cover the area on trail you place it but do not disturb trail and leave it for a few hrs. they'll be gone. best to get rid of them quickly with Amdro than keep messing around.
