How to eliminate dust?

Dust seems to accumulate just hours after dusting. Our home is newly built so it’s not years of dust accumulation that gets in air. Dust is a problem

Hi Charrington, It sounds as though you may have dust in your ventilation system. Often times builders or their workers leave a lot of sawdust, dirt and debris in the heat vents and that could be flowing through your ventilation system. To check, open your heat vents if they are in the floor and feel around as far as you can reach. They should be clean and clear of any building materials. Check all of them as well as you can. If your home is a new build, perhaps you can get the builder to come back and clear the system or they might pay for them to be cleaned by a professional company that does that type of work. As a former Realtor showing homes in the process of being built, I've actually witnessed scraps of wood, sawdust, etc. being swept into the open vents prior to the install of the vent covers. Sadly sometimes the actual builder is not aware their workers do this to save time on the job.

Maybe your air is too dry. Try a humidifier.

  • Do you live in a dusty place? Try "wet dusting."

I live in a hot, dry, dusty place and have my windows and doors open as much as possible, plus I have a bunch pets, so I am always cleaning. You might consider getting an ionizer.

Have your vents checked to make sure they are sealed.

If you have a crawl space that isn't sealed, you can DIY a vapor barrier.

Add a humidifier to your HVAC.

Double check windows & doors to see if they need additional caulk because it can shrink.
