Hi Patti, when we went to "save" a bunch of my grandma's rhubarb that had become horribly overgrown, we found all the new growth and dug them all up in the spring. A cup or so of organic fertilizer mixed in the soil will help give it a boost and 50:50 mix of compost or aged manure and good garden soil.
I had my answer ready, but Grandma’sHouseDIY has the best answer I’ve heard. I’ve cut rhubarb, but never had to “refresh” the bed. Way to go, Grandma!
