Hello Joy! My favorite chalk paint recipe is the one using plaster of paris. Once you have stirred it up well it is smooth and dries to be very durable. Buy the small sample jars of paint or mix with any leftover interior paint you may have--flat paint works best. FInish with a chalk paint wax or poly to protect the chalk paint surface.

Joy...1/3 plaster of paris with 1/3 cool water...mix til smooth. Add 1 cup of latex paint and stir. This should make enough for a 6 drawer chest. My understand is that chalk paint can not be stored or reused. Good luck!

Joy, chalk paint is fun! Here is the recipe I use: Mix 1/3 cup plaster of Paris with 1/3 cup cool water, mix well, then add 1 cup latex paint. Mix well. This will cover a 6 drawer dresser one time. Do not try to save left over chalk paint, it does not keep. Cover with a urethane to protect it.

Chalk paint can be stored in airtight containers (Tupperware), Mix in more water to make the paint smooth again. If the batch can not be used again, dump it out and make new. Homemade chalk paint is much less expensive than store bought paint, which also dries quickly if left uncovered. Happy crafting!

Hello Joy, Mix 1 cup of paint with 1/3 cup of cool water and 1/3 cup of plaster of Paris. Stir until smooth, and you've got your own chalk-finish paint. This will make enough paint for one coat on a standard six-drawer dresser.
