How do I clean old wood floors?

Kathy Gunter LawAlexGrandmasHouseDIY

I live in a house that was built in the 1950's that has hard wood floors. I need to know how to take off the old dirt to get them nice and clean. Thank you

Look at the Bono wood floor products. They carry all stages of cleaners to polishes.

Hi Nadine I use a mix of 50/50 white vinegar and water on both my new pine floors and my 100 year old hardwoods. It works wonders but a good mop is very important. I also add some essential oils too but make sure the ones you use are pet safe if you have critters :)

Murphys oil soap worked great on my 1950's wood floors. Smells nice and clean too. Just don't use to much.

    1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

    1 tsp blue Dawn

    2 gallons hot tap water

Wring mop well. I have used this on my floors since 2000 and on my parents' 1950s wood floors.
