  • Using a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth are the best way to go. Sweeping will only circulate the bust more. It is also a good idea if possible to tape up the door with plastic to contain the spread of the dust.

    Hi Enrica,

You have brought back a lot of memories from a carpet to a tiled floor job we had here. The contractor removed the wall to wall carpet easily, but there was a linoleum layer stuck to the concrete slab which was resistant to coming up easily. He used a rented sander without a vacuum attachment from Home Depot. The one with the vacuum attachment was broken. Needless to say when he sanded off the layer, it was major concrete dust alll over the entire house. Hubby nor he put up any barriers to control the spread.

Anita has a great post mess idea, clean room by room with a plastic draping in between, go top to bottom because if you dust and there is any remaining dust, you can collect it with a vacuum.

thanks so much for your response the plastic sheeting should isolate the rooms better than the old curtain I used it is going to be a long and laborious Easter break

Hi Enrica, first you want to stop the source of the dust, hang some plastic sheeting in the holes where the dust is getting through, then use a shop vac to pick up the dust on walls surfaces and floors with the fuzzy soft end, make sure you empty the vacuum outdoors so you don't dust the inside you just cleaned.
