Has anyone ever built a double-bed size loft?

I was thinking about getting a bed from IKEA (that has drawers underneath) and a simple double bed (from IKEA) and somehow putting them together. Does that sound totally weird?????

To me, it sounds dangerous, not weird. Perhaps I'm not understanding what you are suggesting, but just stacking beds that aren't designed as bunk beds sounds pretty dicey. I know in college a lot of people built (or more likely, had their dads build) lofts in their dorm rooms to clear out floor space. But they framed out loft spaces with thick plywood and thick lumber, then just put mattresses on top. Not sure if that helps. You're right, it does sound dangerous. Has anyone ever built one? Or seen one for sale for under $2000.00?

Faith...check out this article I wrote on lofting beds http://www.networx.com/article/the-fundamentals-of-lofting-a-bed Unless you include some diagonal supports a simple stack can be too wobbly to be safe.
