YUM--How To Make "Marquee" Letters
After seeing a YUM on the dining room wall in a recent episode of HGTV's Fixer Upper, I knew I had to make one. The show created the YUM with vintage marquee letters, I made mine with reclaimed wood, painted in fun, happy colors.
Fun, bright colors!
I started with a rough sketch.
I lay the boards out, use a board for a straight edge, pencil out angles and then take it to the cop saw to cut the angles.
For the middle parts of the M, put the pieces face to face and cut a parallelogram.
Use thin pieces of wood screwed to the back to assemble the letters.
I drew the U put on a thin piece of plywood.
I then cut it out with a jigsaw.
I used a candle wax paint technique on the letters. Find it HERE: http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2014/07/how-to-create-authentic-chippy-paint.html
YUM--a good reminder for the kids when I am serving some new, quinoa salad.
