How to shorten mini blinds?

The mini blinds in my kitchen need to be shorten. The blinds were purchased from Wal-Mart, and are room darkening. None came with instructions for shortening. Only one needs to be adjusted. Does anyone know how to do this?

It's probably easier for you to see it done than try to tell you here. Check out one, or several, of the videos at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+shorten+mini+blinds

If you don't need to remove slats, just remove the tab on the bottom piece. Pull the cord and tie off a knot the distance it needs shortened from the original knot. Stuff it back into the hole and recap. Do it on the other cord. If you have to remove slats, lay it out flat, pop off the tabs and untie the knots. Pull off the bottom piece. Clip the little outer strand a few inches longer than the desired length (a couple of slats lower than where you want the final length). Remove all the excess slats, thread the cord back into the bottom piece, tie off, clip (long) and recap.

I find it easier to hang the blinds first and let gravity and the window ledge help me support and measure the blinds more accurately. (If you have a long blind and a short window, it may help to lay the blind out as long as it will extend and clip about a foot longer than you need, tie the cord around the last slat and hang.) Pop the plug off the bottom, fish out the cords and untie the knot. Remove the bottom, mark the cords with a marker at the window ledge. Remove as many slats as necessary to reach the window ledge. Thread the cords back through the holes on the bottom piece. Replace the bottom, tie off the cord at the mark, clip off (leave about 6"), replace the plugs (some have a slot to hold the excess). Raise and lower your blinds so you'll know if you need to clip the pullcords. When the blinds are completely lowered, push up the cord cover, tie the cords together at the length you desire, clip and pull the cover back over the knot.
