I arrange mine by silver, gold, bracelets, necklaces, brooches. Earrings can be sorted by color or just in one area. An easy way to hang necklaces (costume jewelry) is to put up a flat hook on the wall in an inconspicuous place and hang your chains and necklaces on that.

I have trays with small compartments in a drawer and keep them separate from each other.
