Petunias always work well for me but they are annuals. If you want perennials try roses or brown eyed susans

Thank you for ideas. I live on central coast of CA. The spot is sunny most all day year, round and planting in pots for now.
I'd check out your neighbor's yards and see what grows well for them. it is likely to grow well for you, too!
