I live in an apartment. I have a patio that just sits there uninviting. I would love some ideas to bring some plants, seating, color! I would love to have a nice space to enjoy. I am on a really tight budget, and would love some ideas! I love colors! Looking forward to my bright inviting patio!

I used to be in the exact situation. First off, give it a good cleaning to minimize dust and eliminate cob webs. Then you can lay down an inexpensive indoor/outdoor rug and place inexpensive lawn chairs on it. Those plastic ones are often less than $10 each. Lastly, I planted a Vining plant in a small flower box, set it just under the railing and trained it to grow on the railing for both privacy and color. Morning glories are fast growing and they are best planted from seed ($1).

  • Rug, seating and plants! Shop yard and garage sales. Goodwill and second hand and thrift shops. Even dollar stores have cute items here and there. Do it over time as budget allows. Google and Pinterest have tons of ideas, here are a few:

Ross this time of year has great pots for planting ( flowers, vegetables) at very excellent prices and other garden type items. Check out “marketplace” on Facebook messenger. For neighborhood sales, maybe you can nab a great deal on outdoor furniture. World market has plastic rugs, for a decent price, also check out Lowe’s ... for faux grass, that would be fun and colorful. And of course fairy lights! Make a chandelier out of them, wrap on walls, weave into plants... even hang up some “art” from Goodwill.

All of the above ideas are really good, keep it cheap, simple and colorful, when you move you can take it with you or leave it . We had a beautiful patio in a home we lived for 30 years, I left all the portable plants, and pots, chairs, etc., we downsized, no patio here, but having fun dreaming up new ideas to bring one it. Have fun, it should not take you that long to create one.

Dollar tree and paint will help a lot. You can get things like craigslist to get larger pieces of furniture like chairs and side tables. You can fix them up with paint.
