Is garden soil all that is needed in a new garden?

    It depends on the condition of your original soil and on whether the plants you're putting in have particular nutrient requirements. Our garden soil here tends to be a bit heavy on the clay side so we need to amend it. I'm not a fan of triple mix, but that's just a personal opinion. So we add manure for nutrients and peat moss to help break up the clay and give better drainage.
