My washer smells terrible, like sewer water. I want to clean it in a way that will also remove this smell.

  • I always leave the door open so the inside dries out between loads, Mitzi. Here's a link with more information:

Run it through a cycle using distilled white vinegar vinegar and 1/4 cup 20 Mule Team Borax. Always dry the gaskets after laundering.

Avoid use of fabric softeners, which leave a film on the tub.

Always leave doors propped open at least 6".

Always leave detergent drawer fully open after laundering, at least 6 hours.

If you used liquid fabric softener, you'll most likely find a black slime in this compartment. Remove the exterior section and scrub out, then dry. Use Q-Tips if needed to clean all crevices.

  • Wash it with bleach on a boil cycle. Machine must be empty.

Check owner's manual there maybe a filter that needs cleaned. But the vinegar and hot wash cycle should help.

Unfortunately I can’t find the manual. But great idea. I will try to find one on the net.

I already use vinegar as a softener so I’m not sure how much help a whole wash with it will be.

    But i will try anything.

You can smell it as soon as you walk into the room. It is that bad!
