You want to make sure all the grease and dust is off them. You want to use TSP for the grease. Sand the cupboards well. Clean the dust off with a tack cloth. Prime well and paint with the best quality paint you can get. :)
Mix a couple drops of Dawn & a cup of vinegar into a bucketful of warm water. Scrub away all the grease & grime. Empty that bucket of dirty water & refill it w/just plain water & give the cabinets a good rinse. Dry the cabinets completely before applying the paint. Good luck!
