Hello Kristin! Rosemary is very hardy unless you live in a very cold climate that stays below zero. The suggestion for cold climates is to grow it in a pot so you can move it inside in the winter. rosemary is an herb from the middle east, it can go out in the warmer weather.
Variety "ARP" is hardy through zone 5, if heavily mulched in the winter.
What zone are you in? Rosemary is vey hardy except in very cold snowy climates. I am in zone 9 and grows like a weed here. Likes well draining soil, does not like wet soppy roots. I have in ground, grows better than in pots.
