How do I remove a lawn with existing sprinkler system?

I will be removing my lawn and would like to kill it off, add topsoil and compost, and till it in, but I have an existing sprinkler system in the area. Any thoughts to how to work around it or should I have it removed first? Thanks so much for your help.

Vinegar will kill the lawn and weeds, might need a couple applications. Then use a sod cutter to remove.

Hi Karen, in my opinion you should replace the sprinkler system. When you are doing all the tilling it is likely that you will puncture the sprinkler system.
Just work around it. Usually the pipes are 18"+ deep. Too much work to remove and reinstall. Work around the sprinkler heads and do them by hand.
