Make a Fabric Banner With a Bleach Pen

This is the easiest banner I have ever made, and it's one of my favorites. I made a patriotic red white and blue version, but you can use this technique for any season or celebration.

Grab a few scraps of fabric and follow these steps for a beautiful vintage looking fabric banner.

For this banner I cut a dark blue cotton fabric into triangles and grabbed a bleach pen from my laundry room.

Be sure to wear gloves and cover your work surface, the bleach works fast and will damage surrounding fabrics.

I drew the letters USA with the bleach pen, i just free handed this design. This same technique can be used with a stencil or more ornate fonts.

I let the bleach sit on the fabric for a few minutes then washed the fabric triangles with soap and water. The gel bleach from the pen leaves behind a worn vintage look on the fabric. After washing, the edges of the banner frayed a bit and gave the whole piece a worn look.

I used twine and red ribbon to string this patriotic fabric banner.
