Hello Shirley! This could be a boredom issue for an older dog or a young puppy left unsupervised for too long. Any age dog will need some reprimands, alternate options, and commands to stop the chewing behavior. I have a few pieces of furniture at my house with puppy teeth marks! I also had to train myself to put my shoes and slippers away! ;)

  • Dog is bored to tears. Needs more exercise and attention! Give him or her toys. Take long walks at least twice a day if possible. Play ball or frisbee in the yard. Take with you on errands when you can. I take mine with me to run to the post office, get gas in the car, etc. If you work long hours away from home, consider a pet sitter or dog walker.

You may need to crate him/her while you are gone and when you are home try a small water gun. When he starts chewing on something squirt him with the water.
