How do I hang a mirror over an existing frameless mirror?

I would like to hang a painted mirror in front of the existing builders grade frameless mirror in the bathroom. I would like to hang it so that a small amount of the existing mirror shows around the painted mirror. I live in a rental so I can't remove the existing mirror. Any ideas?

This is the painted mirror I want to hang in front of the existing mirror.

3M command strips or hook and loop.

Hi Sherry, the 3M Command Strips immediately came to my mind too. I hope this works well for you. Sounds like an interesting idea and something I've thought of doing, but haven't. I really like those frameless builder-grade bathroom mirrors that are glued to the wall.

call a local glass company and see what they suggest--likely a silicone adhesive

Make sure you know its weight before selecting the 3M strips.

Check the weight and then figure out how many 3M strips you will need.

Some folks place a pretty wallpaper over the existing mirror by soft tack gluing just the top, sides, and bottom edges (easy fir the next renter). Then hang your mirror from the ceiling just above the top of the frameless mirror. Be sure to find a stud for your fixture. You may need a bumper or two at the bottom of the new mirror so it will not swing or bump the old one. The result will be the look of a wallpapered wall with your gorgeous mirror as a focal point. Having one wall “papered” will give your bathroom a whole new feeling because you get to coordinate your look. Good luck in any event!

Also, some folks use a fabric instead of wallpaper fir the same results.

Do you think suction cups would work? They would hold your beautiful mirror about 1/2-inch from the wall mirror. That could be gorgeous!

Maybe try hanging it with a decorative picture hanger and matching rope that compliment the colors in the mirror. That way you don't chance damaging the mirror that is there.

This picture is not my vision, but gives the idea....

call http://tradingphrases.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu4m0_vvZ4QIVksDACh3algZOEAAYASAAEgI0U_D_BwE. See if you can send them a picture of your mirror. Maybe they can make a vinyl cling on that you can apply to the current mirror that is hanging. I love their work. Put your mirror in a safe place for your when you get your own home. (this way you won't have to worry about your mirror falling and breaking).
